Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
Emergency Medical Responder is the entry-level EMS certification program that gives the student the skills and knowledge to become a part of the EMS team. Previously known as “First Responder” the EMR provides the immediate emergency care to victims in need of medical care. Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training includes patient assessment, vital signs, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED), medical illnesses, traumatic injuries and emergency childbirth. The EMR may become an employee or volunteer with an emergency medical service (EMS) to assist EMT’s on ambulance calls. A fire fighter or law enforcement officer may also be an EMR to provide emergency medical care prior to arrival of an ambulance. In addition, some businesses utilize EMR’s as members of safety teams.
